Projects are being executed in increasingly complex contexts: slow economic growth, shifting global market priorities, and a push for innovation are all factors contributing to the complexity in which businesses need to operate and thrive. In today’s knowledge-based economy, which is an age of rapid change and uncertainty, project management professionals can also expect to witness upheavals during the life of most of their significant projects.

To address the challenges and to help project managers and the companies that employ them navigate these conditions, Faculty Training Institute (FTI), a leading national project management training firm and an EOH Group Company is introducing an Applied Project Management Programme.  The 5 month part-time programme forms part of a completely restructured curriculum in Project Management.

FTI’s highly practical Applied Project Management Programme encompasses traditional project management knowledge and techniques as well as modern developments in the field. “The major value contribution from project management professionals, above the basics of developing and executing sound, realistic project plans, will be their key core competencies in change management, risk management, flexibility and project leadership skills,” says Carol Mould, PMP and Programme Manager.

The Applied Project Management Programme carries a PDU rating of 94 and covers presentation and facilitation skills, project initiation and planning, delivering project value, leadership and change management. Whilst the programme is primarily aimed at people who have qualified with FTI’s Certificate Programme in Project Management Practice, qualifications or recognition of prior learning may be considered sufficient for entry into the Applied Programme. Potential delegates will be required to pass an entrance assessment.

To launch the Applied Project Management Programme, FTI will be piloting the course in Cape Town in November 2012. FTI has invited the top performing graduates from the first iteration of its Certificate Programme in Project Management Practice and delegates from specially selected companies the opportunity to attend the pilot at a reduced price.

The Certificate Programme which was launched in the first quarter of 2012 in both Cape Town and Johannesburg has gained great favour with its target audience. ‘’Two fully-booked iterations of the certificate programme have run in both centres to date,” says Mould. It is anticipated that the public launch of the Applied Project Management Programme in January 2013 will be as eagerly awaited and well received by the public,” says Mould.
