Project management events enjoy support from industry leaders Business Connexion and Post Vision
Project Management South Africa (PMSA) has partnered with Business Connexion and Post Vision Technology on a series of breakfast events hosted across the country, in order to add practical insight and value for their members.
With the theme "Delivering Successful Projects in Tough Economic Times", these sessions are focused on how "people", "process" and "technology" can improve an organisation's chances of project success.
"By partnering with industry players who share best practices and successes, our members have even more opportunity to gain first hand knowledge of how project methodologies that are applied in different industries can help them to achieve successful projects," says Taryn van Olden, CEO of PMSA.
"With PMSA's main purpose being to promote and support the local project management industry and facilitate knowledge sharing opportunities, these events are a discernible and practical way of showing our ongoing involvement and guidance. The first few events have already created more awareness around the role of PMSA and we have received positive feedback from our members with regards to the content of the presentations. It is very important for us to have industry collaboration and we truly value the support for these information sharing events.
"Through our partnership with Business Connexion and Post Vision Technology, we are able to enhance our reach in the smaller regions and grow project management communities and attract new members there," she adds.
As event partners, representatives from Business Connexion and Post Vision Technology are presenting case studies to illustrate the practical side of project management, looking at how their clients have applied principles, theories and technology in order to achieve successful projects. They further offer advice on lessons learnt from implementing a large number of project offices at organisations of all sizes. The event also gives PMSA members the opportunity to network with their peers in different industries. Andre Engelbrecht, Services Executive: Project Services at Business Connexion, says that in providing thought leadership the company hopes to contribute to improving project management maturity in South Africa.
"We have recognised a need in the market to raise awareness around project management and realised the importance of being part of a bigger project management community. Our current focus is on the establishment of project management offices (PMOs), on emphasising the value of project management and we are also in the process of setting up PMO interest groups, practice communities and IT project management groups," he states.
From a networking perspective, the events bring together project managers from across the industry, as well as academic representatives from business schools. It thereby creates a platform for debate and provides attendees with the opportunity to liaise with other thought leaders in the market.
On the technology side, as the only local developer of project management software with a web-based software tool, PPO (Project Portfolio Office), that assists organisations to manage projects and project portfolios, Post Vision Technology believes that the events bring it into closer contact with its key user base, which ultimately guides the company's product roadmap.
Says Guy Jelley, CEO of Post Vision Technology: "It is the ideal platform for us to understand the needs, concerns and challenges of project managers in South Africa and to learn what they, as the end users, look for in a tool like PPO. The PPO product development, enhancements and functionalities are in fact largely guided by input and feedback from the project community itself," he explains.
"Looking forward, we would like to strengthen our relationship with PMSA and as Post Vision Technology is one of the few businesses in South Africa whose focus is solely on project management, I believe that this partnership is a precise fit."
Business Connexion and Post Vision Technology will also be involved with the PMSA Conference 2010 to be held in September this year.
